I encourage you to take great care in your driving...
Now for two areas where I think text messaging could be extremely useful: the movie theaters and with the non-emergency police. How convenient would it be if there was a number you could text at the movie theater when the screen/sound wasn't working properly, or one of those other annoyances where everyone knows there's a problem but no one wants to get up because maybe it will get better when the movie starts, or maybe someone else will do it, or maybe the theater crew will notice it. Instead, text SCREEN or SOUND or TEMPERATURE or ROWDY KIDS to 96435....so much better. :)
Also with things like noise complaints, I've decided text messages are better. A few weeks ago I called the non-emergency number and reported a noise violation at 3:30 in the morning...after the five minutes it took for me to answer contact information and other questions like that, the people were gone and I told the police to forget it. I am also an advocate for being able to report other traffic offenses but that's neither here nor there.
Text messaging COULD be used for some good in this world, instead of as a killer in the car or as a lousy attempt at a full conversation. But you watch, one day that movie theater thing will catch on (and other similar situations).
